The songs were born out of a intense period of reflection following a gruelling tour schedule. Abrams turned to songwriting to process burnout, anxiety, and feelings she had long avoided confronting.

Collaborator Aaron Dessner notes that the project expands their musical vocabulary, blending fingerpicked guitar arrangements, piano compositions, and layered synthesizer textures to ground Abrams' deeply vulnerable lyricism.
