Gracie Abrams: Daughter From Hell, Indies Edition - Everything We Know
Share
Gracie Abrams has officially announced her highly anticipated third studio album, titled Daughter From Hell, which is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, via Interscope Records. Following the massive global success of her 2024 breakout album The Secret of Us, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is wasting no time stepping into her next era. The announcement marks a swift turnaround for Abrams, who spent the last two years solidifying her place as one of the most prominent voices in modern indie-pop.
Even better, it's coming on double, brick red indies exclusive vinyl (it's UK's version of the Target exclusive in the US) - and it includes extra tracks, alternative artwork and poster inside.
Here is an extended breakdown of everything we know about the upcoming record so far.
The Lead Single: "Hit the Wall"
Fans do not have to wait until July for a taste of the new record. The album's lead single, "Hit the Wall," drops on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST.
Abrams first started dropping cryptic clues online using the acronym "DFH" before revealing the fiery, silhouette-focused promotional visuals. The song leans directly into themes of intense emotional burnout, vulnerability, and relationship collapse.
Abrams has teased a significant portion of the track's lyrics on social media:
"I'm a crack in the pavement, I'm a slipknot / I'm afraid that my fortress is a glass box / I should know what I'm playing but I forgot / Felt good for a day but that stopped / And I once saw clearly but it's bloodshot / And I want you so badly but I close off / I thought we’d get married, but I guess not / Now you can watch me hit the wall."
Speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the recent Met Gala, Abrams expressed her relief and excitement regarding the choice of the song as a single. She noted that it serves as the perfect introduction to this specific chapter of her life, describing the music as deeply embodied and grounded.
Tracklist and Album Structure
While the official sequencing of the tracklist remains unannounced, an updated Spotify countdown page confirms that the standard digital edition of Daughter From Hell will feature a total of 16 tracks. This expanded format makes it a longer project than the initial standard edition of The Secret of Us, providing more room for extensive narrative exploration.
Over the course of late 2025 and early 2026, Abrams utilized her live performances to field-test new material. She debuted several unreleased songs during her major festival sets, including a highly publicised performance at the Glastonbury Festival, and during the closing legs of her headlining tour.
Because of this, listeners strongly anticipate that the final album tracklist will feature these live-debuted titles:
- "Out of Nowhere"
- "Death Wish"
- "Crazy Girl"
- "It Doesn't Sit Right"
- "Cold Goodbyes"
In interviews, Abrams expressed that these songs act as direct time capsules of her emotional state, adding that she has never felt more closely connected to a body of work before.
Production and Creative Direction
Abrams completely co-wrote and co-produced Daughter From Hell alongside her long-time creative partner, Aaron Dessner of The National. This project cements a highly successful six-year collaborative history between the pair, who previously shaped her debut album Good Riddance as well as The Secret of Us.
Dessner revealed that the foundation for this album was poured exactly two years ago. Remarkably, the duo began writing the material for Daughter From Hell during the exact same studio session in which they recorded her massive streaming hits "That's So True" and "I Told You Things". The tracking sessions for the new songs took place across several iconic locations, moving from Dessner’s Long Pond Studio in upstate New York to creative hubs in London, and eventually to Electric Lady Studios in New York City.
According to Dessner, the new material intentionally expands their established musical vocabulary, pushing their collaborative style into entirely uncharted waters. Fans can expect a distinct sharpening and deepening of Abrams' lyricism, paired with more complex arrangements.
Abrams pointed out that maintaining a prolific release momentum was completely intentional. She drew heavy inspiration from the rapid, consistent output strategy of her close friend and former tour-mate Taylor Swift. Abrams mentioned that releasing music more frequently helps strip away the pressure of feeling like she needs to completely reinvent herself with every single cycle, allowing her to stay open and create freely.
