Charli XCX & Wuthering Heights: What We Know So Far

Charli XCX & Wuthering Heights: What We Know So Far

Moving away from the lime-green haze of Brat summer, Charli XCX is entering a world of "mud and grit." Her upcoming project, Wuthering Heights, isn’t just a collection of movie songs—it’s a full-length companion album for Emerald Fennell’s 2026 film adaptation of the Emily Brontë classic.

If you’re expecting a 365-day party, you might want to adjust your expectations. Here is everything we know about the next chapter in Charli's career.

1. A Total Departure from Brat

Charli has been vocal about how this project serves as the "entirely opposite" experience to her previous era. In a recent Substack post, she described the new aesthetic as "raw, wild, sexual, gothic, [and] British." Instead of the neon lights of a rave, think of the desolate, wind-swept moors of Yorkshire.

2. The Sound: "Elegant and Brutal"

While the club beats that defined 2024 are taking a backseat, the experimental edge remains. Charli has described the musical palette as a mix of elegance and brutality.

  • Avant-Garde Influences: The lead single, "House," features the legendary John Cale of The Velvet Underground. It’s an eerie, atmospheric track that signals a move toward art-rock and minimalist orchestration.

  • The Second Single: "Chains of Love" (featured in the film’s trailer) leans more into a haunting synth-pop lane, with some fans drawing comparisons to a darker, more modern Kate Bush.

3. Collaboration with Finn Keane

If you loved the production on Brat, you'll be happy to know that Finn Keane (formerly known as Easyfun) is the primary producer for this record. The duo reportedly wrote and recorded much of the album during the Brat tour throughout 2025, capturing a sense of creative exhaustion and rebirth.

4. Release Date and Tracklist

The album is officially scheduled for release on February 13, 2026, coinciding with the theatrical release of the film.

  • Track Count: The album will feature 12 original songs.

  • Concept: This isn't just a soundtrack; it’s a concept album designed to live within the "world" Fennell created for the screen, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

5. Beyond the Album: The Moment

2026 is shaping up to be the year of Charli’s "Hollywood Era." In addition to the Wuthering Heights record, she is starring in an A24 mockumentary titled The Moment, which is set to premiere just weeks before the new album on January 30, 2026.
